"Back to Basics" River Camp in western Brecon Beacons

IMG_0144.JPG

The Wildman Woods is a back to basics RIver Camp in the western Brecon Beacons. You can choose a secluded glade to pitch a hammock or a tent in 5 acres of native woodland. The camp is slightly downhill from the farm where you can see Jacob Sheep, ,Geese and Chickens as you walk past on the Beacons Way footpath. The path leads up to the magical lake "Llyn Y Fan Fach" and "Fan Brycheniog" (a majestic mountain range at 802m). The two glacier lakes can be walked from the Wildman Woods. It takes about an hour to walk up the "Drovers Way" to the first lake and it is well worth the extra 10 minutes to climb up to the top of the mountain ridge for the amazing views across the valley.

WE DO NOT HAVE CARAVANS

Occasionally small camper vans can park on hard standing nearer farm , …on a small gravel area near the pond …. With a firepit and log seats on a grassy area …(same price as camping )

.

On arival I’ll chat about the river camp ethos etc and firewood ….WiFi is available at house but only for quick messages as it’s very limited and can stop our WiFi working inside the house if prolonged use …

Our loos will be cleaned often and sanitizer left by the spring water tap …. Soaps and disinfectants are left in loos but not towels ….we are trusting campers to keep there distance from each other ( which is easyer here as we have low numbers to keep the special wild camp feel ) ..but saying that we are busyer then normal over the weekends over holiday period… Sunday’sand weekdays are often quieter.

River Sawdde

The RIver Sawdde is a beautiful fast flowing river that is perfect for a cooling dip, plus you can wash your hair - it will be super soft from the spring water, and you'll never feel more alive!

Camp washing up is a breeze while paddling! (The kids will be “fighting “to wash up in the river with a bit of moss and grit/sand to use as a scourer.)

“Ark adventures “need support in this difficult time…just next door to us ,they offer lots of exciting activity’s …for adults and kids …from rock climbing, Kayaking etc . website link at bottom of this page

Firewood

£6a large sack of mixed hard and soft wood

Small snappy twigs can be foraged from the woodland floor but not large logs (as the dead fall is needed for the natural cycle of plants). However there are other areas on the farm where wood can be collected (if prearranged and shown where) or bring your own.

LOOS ..There is a compost loo in the woodland or if you prefer there is a new toilet shed up towards the farm.

PRICES…Camping is £15 per night per adult to pitch a hammock ,Bivi ,lightweight awning or small tent …. Wwoofing available ….details below

Sping water ….delicious soft spring water ….fill your bottles here

LARGER TENTS. Over a two man tent is better suited to the field glade at £15 per person per night £5/ per child …suited for a few different areas in the field under tree canopy…still surcluded areas ….with firepits

  • GLADE area for larger tents ( belltents etc );is £15 per adult per night £5 kids
DOGS are welcome if kept on leads or long tether as sheep and chickens are free roaming….I’ve had more people recently who keep letting dogs off leads and it’s an open river to the next door farm … plus damage to trees and wild flowers from dogs digging,so please only bring dogs that are not a problem on a lead and won’t constantly bark at sheep . Thanks for your understanding
POTS AND PANS ETC Can sometimes be hired

  • SHOPS … we are very rural and the shops nearest are Llangadog… nice butchers ,post office , mace and 4 pubs … 6 miles away

Belltent hire …A unique feeling of being Amongst the Trees in a secluded glade …. Hammock ,firpit and grills ,log seats ,kitchen area , awning ,pots and pans , dutch oven etc .which is right Beside the river Sawdde

NEW BELLTENT

New larger 6 meter belltent… for max two adults 3 kids is £80 a night… we can be flexible and sometimes add an extra adult bed for £10 per adult per night .. not suitable for dogs as all new rugs etc we’ve now put our belltents on Air B&B so please look for availability on there … it’s a new listing so hopefully be easier to see dates available…
